Optimization of packaging processes across production sites

At a pharmaceutical company with 4 production sites on 3 continents, the existing packaging processes were analyzed and concrete optimization proposals were developed. The focus of the investigation was on production flow, packaging material quality, printing technology, packaging machines, packaging processes and the layout of the packaging plants - each focused on secondary and tertiary packaging materials. The challenge was to develop proposals that could be used by locations with very different production complexities and historically grown heterogeneity among each other in such a way that the greatest possible benefit is created for all sites. Based on a best practice model, time-coordinated plans were drawn up, ranging from strategic approaches to pragmatic ad hoc recommendations.
